Mayor Kenoi submits ethics reform package to Hawai'i County Council

Mayor Billy Kenoi today submitted his package of proposed reforms to the Hawai’i County Code of Ethics to the Hawaii County Council, including a proposal that would ban county employees from contracting with county departments. Another proposal in the package would tighten certain restrictions on lobbying County boards and agencies.

County Immigration Information Office extends outreach to Waimea and Naalehu

Beginning this month, the Immigration Information Specialist for the County of Hawaii, Rose Batista, will be available to meet with constituents in Waimea every second Friday of the month, and in Naalehu every fourth Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both locations.

Mayor to welcome state champions Pahoa High basketball team

Mayor Billy Kenoi will welcome back the state champion Pāhoa High School Boys basketball team this morning at Hilo International Airport. The team is expected to arrive on Hawaiian Airlines Flight #382 at 10:55 a.m. The Daggers defeated Kailua (Oahu) yesterday to earn the state Division II Boys Basketball Championship. The Mayor will deliver a proclamation honoring the team’s outstanding achievement. The public is invited.

Saddle Road, Manono Street work set

Saddle Road resurfacing in South Kohala and re-striping of a stretch of Manono Street in Hilo are scheduled to get under way next week. Motorists are asked to plan and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

County resumes e-waste recycling program

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division will resume its E-Waste Recycling Program beginning Friday, March 5, to collect and recycle electronic waste in a safe and environmentally responsible method.

County's Mass Transit Agency is moving to the Hilo Iron Works Building

The County of Hawaii Mass Transit Agency administrative office is moving to the Hilo Iron Works Building effective Monday, March 1, 2010. The new address for Mass Transit is 1266 Kamehameha Avenue, Suite A-2.

Customers purchasing shared-ride taxi coupons or requesting bus schedules and service information may do so at the new location beginning Monday, March 1.

There will be no change in the Mass Transit office hours or the office telephone number. Office hours will continue to be from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the telephone number for the Mass Transit Agency will continue to be 961-8744.

Mass Transit’s old site on Lanikaula Street will be used for bus operations only starting March 1.
