County solicits funding proposals

The County of Hawai`i’s Department of Research and Development is currently soliciting proposals for funding in fiscal year 2009-2010. Funds will be made available to non-profit organizations and to research and educational institutions to support projects that improve the quality of life for the people of Hawai`i County through responsible and sustainable economic, societal and environmental practices in agriculture, tourism, business development, energy, film resources and community capacity building initiatives.

In the past, this annual competitive funding vehicle has provided matching funds for projects ranging from simple marketing initiatives to the very complex. Support has been extended to business organizations for exposure at tradeshows and enabled organizations to host informative speakers at conferences and workshops. Funds have been awarded for cultural and historic initiatives including performances, signage and brochures, along with research and development initiatives that address pressing needs or changing dynamics within the Island’s various business sectors and the community at large.

Details and complete application forms are available on line at http://co.hawaii.hi.us/rd/sfa0910.html or by calling 961-8366. The deadline for applications to be postmarked or hand delivered to the Department of Research and Development is April 20, 2009 at 4:30 p.m.
