Keauhou recycling, HI-5 center to close temporarily

The Department of Environmental Management and the ARC of Hilo will be temporarily closing the Keauhou Mixed Recycling and HI-5 Redemption Center on Sunday, April 12 through Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Keauhou Transfer Station for site upgrades.

The Keauhou Transfer Station rubbish drop-off services will be open for normal business hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The closest alternative Recycling and HI-5 Redemption Center is at the Kealakehe Transfer Station.

A concrete pad made with recycled glass is being installed at the HI-5 redemption center and the mixed recycling area. This “glasscrete” pad will reduce mud and ponding in the recycling area and result in a cleaner site and improved access. Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the State Department of Health HI-5 Program.

Keauhou Mixed Recycling will re-open on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 6:30 a.m. The HI-5 Redemption Center will re-open on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 8:30 a.m.

For more information, please contact the County Solid Waste Division’s Recycling Section at 961-8527 or 961-8270 or visit www.hawaiizerowaste.org.

Mahalo for your kokua.
